Meet Dani DiAmico from Sage Branch Library
Tell us about yourself and what you do:
DANI: My name is Dani DiAmico. I've been happily married to my husband Mike for 12 years. We have an amazing 6 year old daughter name Moira, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 10 fish. Our house is full of love but a bit chaotic. I travel as much as possible, play the ukulele, and spend every free moment of summer outside in my garden.
I work for the Bay County Library System as the Children's Librarian at the Sage Branch Library. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from CMU, and will be graduating with a Masters in Information and Library Science from Wayne State in December.
As a children's librarian I specialize in book selection and programming for children under the age of 12. All programming is designed to promote literacy in Bay County. Programs include visiting schools, setting up promotion tables at community events, story time, and all sorts of STEAM inspired experiences at the library. I like to say, this is the dream job I didn't know I was looking for.
What does Women’s History month mean to you?
DANI: I was raised by parents who empowered me to explore any career I wanted. As an adult I realize how fortunate I am, and that it is not the case for so many women in this world. Women's History Month gives me the opportunity to celebrate my parents and the many women who have supported and mentored me throughout my life. There are MANY amazing ladies who love and support me unconditionally.
Working at the library gives me the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of women through displays and programming. It is very exciting to see the attempt to recover the stories of women who were written out of history. I have been in the children's department since 2017, and the number of biographies published about inspiring women that are now available has increased drastically since I started in my position. I'm proud to work for an organization that makes them available for my daughter, and all the boys and girls of our community.
If you could go back and give yourself advice as a young professional, what would you tell yourself?
DANI: Just keep working hard, and be kind. You'll end up where you're meant to be eventually.
Tell us what you love most about your community?
DANI: This community provides amazing opportunities for our children! The school system is fantastic, there are countless free events all the time, support and classes for parenting, spaces to explore nature, we have every type of extracurricular sport you could think of, and easy access to art and culture. When my daughter graduates, Delta is close by, and the Bay Area Community Foundation provides support when applying for scholarships. I feel that by living in Bay City I am setting my daughter up for future success.
